Pamukkale (translated from Turkish as “cotton castle”) is a natural site that includes 17 geothermal springs with water temperatures ranging from 35 to 100 degrees, as well as reservoirs with dazzling white terraces formed from travertine (calcium-rich limestone). This place and ancient Hierapolis were already considered a resort for the Roman nobility from the 1st century. The first buildings of Hierapolis date back to the 2nd millennium BC. One city called Hierapolis was built in 190 BC. King Eumenes II of Pergamum (the influential ruling Greek Attalid dynasty in Asia Minor). In 133 BC. the city comes under Roman rule. At the beginning of the 1st century AD. Hierapolis becomes famous among the Roman aristocracy as a spa center with the natural springs of Pamukkale. From this moment on, the city began to flourish... Our excursion will take place throughout the entire territory of Pamukkale-Hierapolis, visiting all significant objects and places (travertines, ancient theater, Temple of Apollo, necropolis). Also, everyone will be able to swim in Cleopatra’s baths (ancient pool).
